Unequal Opportunities - There are two charts on this page; the first shows maternity leave rates by country; the second chart shows glass ceiling percentages of women in developed economies. Maternity Leave – 1998 Maternity Leave benefits provided by: 1. Government funded, Canada, Central and South America, parts of Europe, parts of Africa, Turkey, Iran and Russia.  2. Employer leave benefits, parts of Africa, China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. 3. Government and employer funded, India, Germany, Japan and Egypt. 4. No mandated maternity pay, United States, Australia, South Africa and Mongolia. Canada 1999. In the 500 largest corporations, women held 12% of corporate officer positions, and only 3% of the highest positions; only 10 of the top 500 companies were run by women. German, 1995. In the 70,000 largest enterprises, women held 3% of the top executive and Board Director positions.
USA, 1999. In the 500 largest corporations, women held 11% of corporate officer positions and only 5% of the most senior positions; only 3 of the top 500 companies were run by women. Glass Ceilings – Women as a percentage of “managers” in the labor force late 1990’s developed economies.
